Privacy Policy

Your privacy is our top priority. Period. We will never sell, give away, trade or compromise your private information for anyone, for any reason.

Let's talk about HIPAA for a moment. Don't sweat it. It's going to be ok. We are often asked if Medicfusion is HIPAA-compliant. The right question is, "Are you HIPAA-compliant?" Services and software can't make your practice HIPAA-compliant. That's just the nature of the law. HIPAA compliance means that you protect the confidentiality of your patients' records, including their medical, insurance, payment and related information, and that your policies are communicated and understood by everyone who works for you or with you in the management or use of that information. If you are a physician's office, make sure your staff and contractors know your policies and uphold them. If you are a patient, educate yourself about the technological age and technological transmission of your information.

Here's what we're doing to protect your information and meet our obligation to you and the Health Information Portability and Accessibility Act:

  1. Medicfusion ensures the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all electronic health information created in, received by, maintained and/or transmitted through our service.
  2. Medicfusion provides all possible protections against reasonably anticipated threats or hazards to the security or integrity of that information.
  3. Medicfusion provides all possible protections against reasonably anticipated illegal uses of that information.
  4. Medicfusion ensures absolute compliance with HIPAA by all its employees and contractors. No exceptions.

How do we do all this? We store the data in a secure off-site facility to provide the best available physical and technological protections against theft, intrusion, corruption, manipulation, disaster, power outages and more. We utilize 128-bit encryption, unique user i.d.'s and passwords, automatic logoffs and administrative controls to establish the degree of records access for your personnel and your patients. We also employ a top-notch Compliance Officer to make sure we're doing everything possible to help you meet your HIPAA obligations and ensure that we meet ours. Do you have your own HIPAA Compliance Officer? If not, maybe you should. They earn their fees. Want to talk to ours? Here's how:

Then, there's the matter of research. We're thinking about analyzing anonymous information about healthcare trends, industry efficiencies and so forth based on the use of the Medicfusion service. If we do this, it would be for the improvement of the Medicfusion service, advancement of patient care and the healthcare industry in general, and would never, ever, ever include names or any private personal, medical or financial information. In cases such as this, we may take your personally identifiable information and make it non-personally identifiable, either by combining it with information about other individuals or by removing identifying characteristics such as your name, address, employment, phone, cell phone, email address, and any and all other information personally identifiable to you. No restrictions will be made upon the right of the Company to aggregate or de-personalize your personal information and use that information in research or in collaboration with third parties. If, after reading all of this, you still remember your personally identifiable information, then you should be proud of yourself.

Medicfusion patients, and patients associated with a Medicfusion Physician's Practice, provide personally identifiable information about themselves and/or their dependents that will be entered, stored and maintained within the Medicfusion system. This information, whether entered directly by the patient or for the patient, will be encrypted to protect their privacy and security. Additional technological information about you also may be collected when you log on to Medicfusion sites, including physician sites. This information could include your IP address or ISP (Internet service provider), company, university, etc....

Medicfusion also uses cookies, which are entirely inedible pieces of information that our web site sends to computers used to view our web site. Cookies are commonly used for a variety of purposes and in general, make the web site experience more effective. For instance, when returning to a Medicfusion site after logging in the first time, cookies allow our site to recognize you as a returning visitor. This means you won't have to log in again, which will save you many seconds each time you use our service. That adds up. Computers may be set to warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. If you turn cookies off, you may not be able to access many features that make your Medicfusion experience quick and pleasant, and some of our services may not function properly.

Medicfusion sites also use a variety of technical methods for tracking purposes, including web beacons. These are small pieces of data embedded within web sites that are used to analyze the traffic patterns on those sites, such as the frequency with which you visit various parts of our web sites. The technical methods may involve the transmission of information either directly to us or to another party authorized by us to determine whether, for example, emails were opened or whether links within the email were clicked. The information harvested by these technical methods may be collected in a form that is personally identifiable but that will be kept private and secure.

Certain advertisements placed on our web site by third parties also may use cookies and web beacons to collect non-personally identifiable information when you click on or move your cursor over one of their banner advertisements. You may not realize this information is being collected. In some cases, we may have access to information from web beacons and cookies used by network advertisers on our sites and this information may permit us to identify other sites that you have visited that are also associated with the network advertiser. When you click on an advertisement and leave our web site, our Privacy Policy no longer applies and you must read the privacy policy of the advertiser to see how your personal information will be handled on their site.

We are in the business of making the medical experience easy and secure for patients, their physicians and their staffs. We will do absolutely everything we can to make that possible for you.

Thank you for your confidence in us. Enjoy the Medicfusion experience.
